The infinity is not symmetrical once the two routes are drawn honestly. On the authority side the work stops at the boundary and waits for the decision to come back to the same place. On the contribution side the work keeps moving while the invitation travels, and the exchange rejoins it further along. The two lobes differ in direction, closure and size. The crossing is also not a point — it is a short window that has to be entered and left.

Nothing is pre-printed. The line of work runs straight, and most traces run straight with it. Two traces divert: one upward because a boundary requires authority, one downward because a perspective was recognised as useful. Each diversion leaves a faint mark, so the infinity accumulates as a record of the times participation was entered. Look at it early and the figure is barely there — which is accurate.

Here the lobes are allowed to be unequal. The authority request leaves at the boundary and the work behind it is dashed until the decision returns to that same point. The invitation travels backwards along the line, because the agent initiates it, and the exchange rejoins the work downstream, because the work did not wait. The contribution lobe stays open at one end: the practice has no completed instance yet.

Timing, frequency and position are not yet observable. Approval Request and Office Hours have to run long enough to leave marks before anything can be read off them, and the pattern may turn out to be nothing.

Figures may become clearer. They should not become more authoritative-looking than the underlying idea deserves. No single view has to carry the whole seeing.
